Personal, One-on-one Critiques for Fiction & Poetry
First Five (5) Pages of Fiction Critique (Optional Purchase)
All five openings for Tim’s critiques have been sold. Will post again if there’s a cancellation.
Featured guest instructor Tim will privately critique the first five (5) pages of one of your stories for its effectiveness in attracting readers.
Such a critique may look at how well the opening pages jumpstart the plot and fit its genre. How well a reader may feel like they know where they’re headed in the story. Whether the main character’s goal is already evident. Whether one conflict or more is already emerging.
Limited number: No openings at this time.
Cost: $50.
Length: Up to the first five (5) pages of your story.
In-text Critique: Tim will make comments within the pages themselves.
One-on-One Meeting: Outside of workshop sessions, Tim will meet with you for up to 10 minutes to share and explain comments and respond to questions.

Double-spaced
Left margin justification
Indented paragraphs

Overall Look and Format of the Five Poems:
Organize your poems thoughtfully.
Start each poem on a new page.
Follow MLA Conventions, including:
Single space all line breaks in the poem,
Double space between stanzas,
Input 1-inch margins on all sides,
Use a 12 pt font on all text,
Use a 14 pt font for the title, and
Keep poems left-flush on the page, unless the text flushing has a relationship to the poem.

Open Mic Readings. Read by Professional Actors (Open to Registrants Only)
Michael Kenwood Lippert is a founding member and resident artist with The Human Race Theatre Company in Dayton, Ohio. As a member of Actor’s Equity Association, he most recently appeared as Mark Rothko in Red at the Human Race. Other credits include the Midwest premieres of Sunset Limited and Robert Johnson: Trick the Devil as well as leading roles in Picasso at the Lapin Agile, True West, Speed the Plow, The Elephant Man and Orphans.
Michael also uses his talents to transform Ohio’s education system one classroom at time, where students are truly put first and even the driest subjects explode with life. In 2011, Michael received the Ohio Arts Council’s Governor’s Award for Arts in Education that recognizes life-time achievement in the arts.
Bruce Cromer has been a proud member of Actors' Equity Association since 1981. A BFA Acting graduate from the Professional Actor Training Program at Wright State University, in Dayton, Ohio, Bruce was already acting professionally with the Alabama Shakespeare Festival before his graduation. A leading actor, fight choreographer, and stage combat instructor with ASF for seven seasons, Bruce acted in over half of the Shakespeare canon: playing Hamlet, Romeo, Tybalt, Prince Hal, Macduff, Guiderius in CYMBELINE, Charles Surface in THE SCHOOL FOR SCANDAL, etc.
He is a founding Resident Artist with the Human Race Theatre, since 1987. Professor Emeritus, Bruce taught acting and movement at Wright State University for over thirty years. He’s been an active voice-over artist for decades. He won a regional Emmy in 2021 for his voice performance in the PBS documentary, "The Memphis Belle."
Jennifer Joplin is a proud member of Actor’s Equity and a resident artist at The Human Race Theatre Company in Dayton. Regional credits include Erma Bombeck in At Wit’s End, Amanda in The Glass Menagerie and Annette in God of Carnage at Human Race; Aimee in The Humans and Rosemary in Outside Mullingar at Ensemble Theatre Cincinnati; Twelfth Night and Merry Wivesat Cincinnati Shakespeare Company; and Virginie in The Man-Beast at Know Theatre.
When not sheltering in place with her awesome husband and son, she tours the country with her original one-woman show, The MILF Also Rises.
Registrants: Add energy, emotion and audience attention to the importance of your story or poem. Turn in up to 10 minutes of your work. One of the three actors will practice then read it to an eager audience. You sit to the side of the stage and be recognized and applauded.
Sell Your Books (Registrants Only, No Cost)
Sunday morning, 9:30-10:30 am, registrants may sell their books. No cost for the table.
Two registrants will share one of the round tables in the Banquet Hall. Because of size restrictions, registrants are limited in the number of books to sell. Public Invited.
Be sure to mark the registration form that you want a half table.
